TARA SHARMA : ‘I AM FINALLY GETTING A CHANCE TO ACT'

She's more than just a pretty face. Tara Sharma is not here to stun audiences with an explosive hot number, controversial scenes, or just being featured in the most read hot-spot in the papers. Even if the spot we're talking about is the celebs favourite, tangy flavoured Page 3. Well, it's a different story that Tara's name has been imprinted on this page for good; she's starring in Madhur Bhandarkar's ‘Page 3', along with the award wining actress Konkona Sen.

The not-so-typical Page 3 type Tara Sharma talks about her newest venture, her acting career and more…

We recently heard the news of you being roped in by Madhur Bhandarkar for ‘Page 3'…

“I am doing ‘Page 3' with Konkona and Sandhya. The film revolves around a journalist and her perception of the Page 3 world. She has two roommates – Sandhya, who is an airhostess and me, who is an aspiring actress. It's a realistic, slightly dark film, as it looks at the glamorous Page 3 world and the harsh reality that hides behind the pretentious faces.”

Madhur is known for making realistic and hard-hitting cinema and this is the first time you're attempting a non- masala movie…

“Although I am very new in this industry, I want to do stuff that I can relate to, realistic films with good scripts. Not that I didn't enjoy what I have done so far; someone like me gets excited about whatever I am doing at that point of time.”

How was it working with an award-winning actress like Konkona Sen?

“We actually had a fantastic schedule. First we shot for about a week and Sandhya, Konkona and me got along really well. By the end of it all, we were great friends and that made it very comfortable to work.”

Were you the first one considered for this role?

“Honestly, I don't know, and I don't ask. Like I always say, I don't like to interfere in anything that's not my business.”

So this will be a pleasant change from running around trees…

“Yes, no running around the trees and dancing to songs this time, although I really like that as well. I am not someone who is totally opposed to doing the typical commercial cinema; as long as I have a fair share of both, I am happy.”

Nowadays there are hero-less films being made - for instance, ‘Paisa Wasool', where Manisha and Sushmita were the heroes. Does ‘Page 3' follow the similar format?

“Yes, it is a film where the women are the protagonists. It is a story seen through a struggling journalist's (Konkona's) eyes. She is essentially the lead, but she lives with two other women, hence the story is reflected through these three women and their perspectives. There are men who affect all their lives - their counterparts, who are important to each of them - but the men aren't at the crux of the story.”
