Making a film is a rollercoaster ride, Producer Bobby Pushkarna tells Times of India’s Afsana Ahmed. Overwhelmed with the tremendous response his debut film Page 3 has garnered the young producer of Page 3, Bobby Pushkarna is riding high. Bobby who prefers to be different chose a subject that’s not typically Bollywood style for his debut vehicle. “We didn’t expect such phenomenal response. My belief has paid off. It’s an impetus to make cinema with sense, sensibility and the regular spices,” laughs Bobby .
Addressing issues:
The film explores the subject of pedophilia at length. It took me, almost two weeks to convince my director Madhur Bhandarkar and writer to use the issue in the film. However, they were more keen on delving on the topic of ‘wife swapping’. But, that subject has already been explored. But, I wanted to stand by my convictions and was even ready to accept any backlash for it. I wanted to show reality that’s always been pushed under the carpet. From our research, we learnt that it’s been happening.
Filmi chakkar:
My father Baldev Pushkarna , has produced films like Chacha Bhatija during his time. Dharmendra uncle, who is dad’s very good friend, would always tell dad to take me into films. But, for me, making a film was more fascinating than, acting in it. I didn’t have too many friends from the industry though, I knew Sunny and Bobby as kids. Sanjay Dutt was another person with whom I had bonded pretty well.
Taking the plunge:
I briefly flirted with modelling in the US, before taking up property business there. But, making a film has been a constant thought in my mind. So when I saw Chandani Bar in London, I knew, I had found my director, to launch my film.
Debut vehicle:
The Page 3 culture has been there for years. Now only the skirts have gone higher and hemlines have come lower. It’s merely old wine in a new bottle, packaged very well.
Fall-outs?:
During the making of the film there were rumours that I had a fall-out with Madhur. The truth is that Madhur and I have a relationship similar to that of a husband and wife. We did have our share of arguments, but that’s about it.
A roller-coaster ride:
Amit Raeli, the earlier hero passing away due to jaundice came as a shock to me. While I was mourning, came the second shock that Madhur is being accused in a rape case. For once, things were hazy for me. But we sailed through. I don’t want to look back. But yes, the making of the film, has been a roller coaster journey for me.
